SCWRS

This Narrative Collage came out of Dee’s 2021 artist residency sponsored by the Science Museum of Minnesota. Dee worked closely with scientists and lab technicians from the museum’s St. Croix Watershed Research Station (SCWRS). Out of her appreciation for her artist residency, Dee wanted to create a work of art that captured SCWRS’s ‘sense of place.’ She also wanted to celebrate the scientists and lab technicians who conduct world-wide water research. This layered work includes an image of the research stations, the trees and body of water near the station, a topography map of the area, a SCWRS microscope slide, a detail from a scientist’s field notebook and other symbolic an realistic imagery. This piece was printed on archival paper with archival inks and presented to the SCWRS staff.

It is wonderful when past Pine Needles Artist in Residency recipient returns to the SCWRS to share a finished piece with us. This print was extra special because I so enjoyed my many chats with Dee last year and seeing how her art incorporated all those idea and objects was amazing!
