COMMEMORATIVE PIECE

This multi-media commemorative piece, titled Forever, was created in honor of two high school seniors, Jack Harnsongkram and Connor Ausland, who tragically drowned off the Oregon coast in 2011. This 48” x 48” x 6” work displays 49 black-and-white portraits of high school peers who represent the many close friends of Jack and Connor. This piece is layered with much symbolism: personal mourning, community grief, permanent connection, and a sense of containment. Additionally, a mirror encircles the frame’s interior to allow the portraits and grid to reflect into infinity — symbolizing countless others effected by this tragedy, as well as the immeasurable effects that have since radiated. This piece was awarded the Mayor’s Choice Award and the People’s Choice award in the 2011 Eugene Mayor’s Art Show.
